You can tell a lot about a person—what they’re thinking and feeling—by studying their body language. This is especially true when it comes to recognizing whether someone is attracted to you or not.
When someone is attracted to you, their body will start to show it in ways they probably aren’t even aware of. In fact, their body might start showing their interest before they are consciously aware of their attraction to you.
How can you tell if someone is interested in you? Here are some signs to look for.
Like Looking In a Mirror
There’s some truth to the saying that like attracts like. We are often attracted to people who are similar to us in some way, whether they like the same sports, have the same worldview, or share the same occupation. And your subconscious knows this too.
When someone is attracted to you, they might start to mirror your actions. If you push a strand of hair behind you ear, they’ll push a strand of hair behind their ear. If you tap your finger on your glass, they’ll tap a finger on their glass. It’s their subconscious mind’s way of saying, “See, I’m just like you, so you should like me back.”
Can’t Look Away
On average, a person is comfortable making eye contact with you for about three seconds. After that, they’ll feel compelled to glance away, at least for a moment. However, when someone’s interested in you romantically, they’ll tend to make eye contact with you for longer than average.
Why? First, it is a form of contact. If your relationship is at a stage where too much physical contact might be a bit awkward, eye contact is the next best thing. If they can’t touch you physically, at least they can “touch you” with their eyes.
Maintaining eye contact with you is also their subconscious way of letting you know they’re interested. After all, a person staring at you often means they like what they see.
Close To You
When someone is attracted to you, they’ll want to get as close to you as possible. For example, they might lean towards you a little more than seems normal. Not only does this allow them to get closer to you physically, it also gets your attention.
Someone who’s attracted to you will take any opportunity to sit or stand close. And if they can do it in a way that causes your shoulders or hips to touch, even better.
They also won’t want anything to come between you. For example, if they’re carrying a grocery bag when you approach them, they might rest the bag on their hip or set it on the ground so that it’s out of the way.
While what a person says is certainly important, the real clue to what’s on their mind is often in their body language. And if someone mimics your actions, tries to maintain prolonged eye contact, or takes any excuse to get closer to you physically, there is a very good chance they’re attracted to you.
And if you’reattracted to them, knowing they return your feelings can save a lot of time, and make the beginning of your relationship a lot less bumpy.
